Kids can learn about penguins at museum

Help stimulate a child's natural curiosity of the diverse world around them through stories, games, crafts, songs and museum objects. Educational programs for children 3 to 7 years old, along with their caregivers, are conducted on the second Saturday of each month between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at the Elgin Public Museum.

King Penguin, Emperor Penguin, Rockhopper Penguin, oh, my! Children 3-7 and their caregivers are welcome to join as PAWS celebrates these amazing animals with "In Antarctica: Penguins." Penguins are superbly adapted to their icy life. They spend about half their time on land and half their time in water, where they are extremely agile. When on land, one way to get around is tobogganing, or sliding on their bellies across the snow. Learn more from someone who was actually there! For this month only the program will be the first week of April. Registration is required and should be completed by March 28.

The Elgin Public Museum is located at 225 Grand Blvd. in Elgin's Lords Park. The fee for each program is $10 per child. Members pay $8. Space is limited so register in advance. To register call (847) 741-6655.
