No one injured in fire at Elmhurst businesses

No one was injured in a three-alarm fire that broke out in an Elmhurst retail building late Tuesday night, Elmhurst fire officials said.

Battalion Chief Timothy Mahoney said the blaze started about 11:15 p.m. and caused about $1.2 million in damages to the building and an additional $1 million in damages to the contents inside the hair salon, real estate office, dry cleaner and other businesses at 514 S. Spring Rd. in Elmhurst.

He added firefighters had the fire under control at about 1 a.m. Wednesday, but didn't leave the scene until after 5 a.m.

Mahoney added 14 area departments were called in to help battle the blaze, while police blocked streets in the area during the fire. The streets have been reopened this morning, he added, and no residential homes were evacuated near the fire.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, Mahoney said, and that the DuPage County Fire Investigation Task Force will be back investigating later.
