Aurora men arrested in 3-year-old gang-related slaying

Three Aurora men stand charged with the three-year-old murder of a 30-year-old Aurora man.

Chavez K. Saulsberry, 19, formerly of the 800 block of Taylor Street; Ruben Hernandez, 25, formerly of the 300 block of Superior Street; and Salvador Gonzalez, 22, of the 700 block of Second Avenue were charged with first-degree murder by the Kane County state's attorney's office, Aurora police spokesman Dan Ferrelli said.

The three have been charged with the shooting death of Michael Moore in November 2005, he said.

Saulsberry and Hernandez already were in custody on unrelated murder charges, while Gonzalez was arrested during a traffic stop Monday at High and Hermes Streets.

Moore was shot to death about 11 a.m. on Nov. 28, 2005, while driving near Galena Boulevard and East Avenue on the near East side.

Ferrelli said the three suspects were riding in a vehicle when they spotted Moore and another 25-year-old Aurora man, pegging Moore as a rival gang member.

The three followed Moore's car for several blocks before pulling alongside it at Galena and East, Ferrelli said.

Saulsberry allegedly opened fire into Moore's vehicle during the stop, hitting Moore multiple times. Moore's car veered forward on Galena after the shooting for about a block, left the road and hit a tree just west of Hickory Avenue.

The passenger suffered a graze wound to one of his arms.

Detectives zeroed in on Saulsberry, Hernandez and Gonzalez in part because of information gathered during the investigation of other cold-case murders over the past several years, Ferrelli said.

Aurora police say the investigation remains open and they have not ruled out charges against others who may have been involved in the shooting.
