Three charged in Aurora drug overdose death
Aurora police have charged three men in connection with the overdose death of an 18-year-old Joliet woman.
Ryan J. Faber, 25, and Christopher D. Parker, 22, both of the 300 block of South Fourth Street in Aurora, along with Kyle B. Hayes, 20, of the 100 block of West 22nd Street in Sandwich, have been charged with drug-induced homicide by the Kane County State's Attorney, said Dan Ferrelli, Aurora police spokesman.
The three were charged for their role in the drug-induced death of Amber J. Thompson, he said.
They appeared in bond court Tuesday morning. A Kane County judge set bond for Faber and Parker at $350,000 and Hayes' bond was set at $150,000. They are currently being held at the Kane County jail in St. Charles. Their next scheduled court appearance is slated for April 3.
They have been in custody since Sunday after police were called to a gas station on the 300 block of South Broadway Avenue, where Thompson was found unconscious and barely breathing inside Hayes' vehicle, Ferrelli said.
Ferrelli said police learned the four apparently were swallowing heroin inside Faber's and Parker's apartment late Saturday early Sunday when the teen passed out.
Ferrelli said Faber sold heroin to Hayes and the victim during the evening, and Parker apparently loaded and injected the heroin into the willing girl, Ferrelli said.
Sometime later, the four fell asleep and, when the three men awoke Sunday, they were unable to wake Thompson, Ferrelli said.
Parker and Hayes placed the teen into a vehicle with the intention of taking her to the hospital. But Hayes -- who drove the car alone -- stopped at a gas station and called 911 about 10 a.m.
Paramedics from the Aurora Fire Department took Thompson to Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora, where she was pronounced dead about 11 a.m. Sunday.
An autopsy conducted Monday at the Kane County coroner's office concluded that Thompson's preliminary cause of death was due to injection of a controlled substance.
Faber and Parker were arrested without incident Sunday afternoon at their Fourth Street apartment.
