Railroad police officer fatally shoots suspect
A man was shot to death by a Canadian National Railway police officer after he was allegedly fired upon in Homewood.
Canadian National spokesman Patrick Waldron said two officers responded late Monday to a report of a suspicious man hiding in the bushes near the Homewood commuter Metra station. He said the two officers identified themselves when they arrived on the scene.
Waldron said the man fled after the officers ordered him to walk toward them. When a marked Canadian National squad car tried to block the 49-year-old man's path, he shot at the officer.
Waldron said the officer returned fire, striking the suspect.
The man, who has not been identified, was taken to Advocate South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest where he was pronounced dead.
