Buffalo Grove man pleads guilty in drugs for job sting
It is difficult to find work these days, but there are still some things a person cannot do in pursuit of employment.
Asher Meyers, 20, of Buffalo Grove, pleaded guilty to possession of the controlled substance he believed he was trading for a job interview.
Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Scott Hoffert said an agent of the Lake County Metropolitan Enforcement Group became acquainted with Meyers, of the 2600 block of Chelsea Street, as part of other investigations.
On Nov. 16, the agent sent Meyers a text message claiming he knew the owner of a Gurnee restaurant and could get Meyers an interview for an assistant manager's position. The agent told Meyers he would have to supply him with some illegal drugs if he hoped to get the interview, Hoffert said.
An enthusiastic Meyers responded he would be glad to supply the agent with some tablets of the painkiller hydrocodone, and other substances would follow if he got the job.
The following day, Meyers met with the agent at the restaurant, handed over 14 pills and was promptly arrested.
Police found 36 more of the pills in Meyers' 2005 Ford Mustang, Hoffert said, so they seized the vehicle as well.
Circuit Judge Fred Foreman accepted a plea negotiation that had Meyers plead guilty to felony drug possession, but the conviction will be dropped if he successfully completes two years on probation.
Foreman also ordered Meyers to pay $1,350 in fines and perform 100 hours of public service.
Meyers was allowed to reclaim his vehicle by paying an additional $3,500 fine.
