Batavia 3rd Ward hopeful withdraws from race

Joanne Gustafson, a candidate for alderman in the 3rd Ward in Batavia, announced Saturday she is dropping out of the race.

The announcement came in an e-mail correspondence with a Daily Herald reporter regarding a candidate questionnaire.

Monday, in a second e-mail, she said she withdrew for "personal reasons." She declined to speak in person.

Gustafson was running against Kyle Hohmann and incumbent Alderman Linnea Miller.

Her name will still appear on the ballot since the ballot was published March 9. Technically, the deadline for withdrawing from the election was Feb. 5.

According to Kane County Clerk Jack Cunningham, Gustafson still has to file a withdrawal form with the Batavia City Clerk, otherwise any votes she receives April 7 would be counted.
