Algonquin teen accused of burglary, marijuana possession

An Algonquin teenager has been charged with felony burglary to a motor vehicle and misdemeanor cannabis possession.

Travis J. Landin, 17, of the 1100 block of Stratford Lane in Algonquin, faces up to seven years in prison if convicted on the felony charge.

Kane County Judge John Noverini Tuesday morning set Landin's bond at 10 percent of $5,000, which Landin's parents said they would pay.

Noverini also ordered that the teenager wear a home monitoring device on his ankle, once he's released on bond.

Court reports say that Landin admitted to police that he had taken a GPS unit and iPod music player out of unlocked vehicles at about 4:20 a.m. Monday.

Officers had been in the 1400 block of Charles Avenue that morning, following up on reports that a group of people had stolen items out of a vehicle, reports said.

Police caught up with Landin and three minors on Riverwood Drive and that was when they found the music player and navigation system on Landin's person, reports said.

Officers also caught Landin with marijuana, reports said, but they did not specify how much.

Landin is due to appear in court at 9 a.m. April 7 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
