Firefighters battle brush fire in Lake Zurich

Thirty fire departments from Lake, Cook and McHenry counties spent four hours battling a brush fire in the Cuba Marsh Forest Preserve in Lake Zurich Sunday. One firefighter suffered minor injuries.

The fire started just after 3 p.m. east of Ela Road and south of Cuba Road, according to the Lake Zurich Fire Department. Due to dry conditions and wind, the fire grew rapidly and was deemed a fourth alarm box level.

The fire was under control at about 7 p.m. About 250 acres of the Cuba Marsh burned, but the fire did not reach any of the nearby homes.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
