Incumbents should be returned to Grayslake village board

The four candidates vying for three Grayslake village board seats see eye-to-eye on key issues - the need for commercial growth, hopes for progress on stalled developments, concern over traffic congestion and a desire to hold onto the town's strong financial position even in these turbulent economic times. Incumbents Bruce Bassett, Shawn Vogel and Amy Edwards have served their village well, and even opponent Quin O'Brien agrees. O'Brien would bring a fresh perspective and a desire to be more proactive to the board, and we'd love to see him remain involved in the village.

That said, the incumbents deserve the chance to see key projects started in the last few years brought to fruition. They rightly believe commercial development is key to easing the tax burden on Grayslake residents, but - with a balanced budget and no debt - they can weather the wait. Together, Bassett, Vogel and Edwards offer residents a strong, cohesive team with the best interests of Grayslake at heart.
