Car crash claims Marengo man
A Marengo man was killed in a car accident at about 5:30 p.m. Friday on Route 47 near Sugar Grove, police said.
William J. McKenzie, 54, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Kane County Sheriff's Department.
Linda L. Knotts, 44, of the 300 block of Dempsey St. in Elburn, was taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove with apparently nonlife-threatening injuries.
An initial investigation showed that Knotts, who was driving a Chevrolet S10 pickup, crossed into the oncoming northbound lane, colliding with McKenzie, who was driving a Ford Windstar, police said.
Police continue to investigate the accident. It is unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a part in the crash.
Route 47 is closed between Harter and Scott roads until further notice, police said.
No information was available about when the road would reopen, said Kane County Sheriff's Lt. Pat Gengler.
