North Aurora boil order ends

The boil order has been lifted for drinking water in North Aurora, after village officials received laboratory test results late Friday afternoon indicating the water was safe.

But officials still are investigating what caused the village's pumps to shut down Wednesday night or Thursday morning, leading the village's storage tower to be drawn down to nearly zero. That led to low water pressure, necessitating the boil order.

They expect to have more information by Monday, said Village Administrator Sue McLaughlin.

Low water pressure can allow illness-causing microorganisms to enter the pipes, or allow microorganisms already present to flourish due a lack of chlorinated water.

Residents were encouraged to boil drinking and cooking water Thursday and much of the day Friday.
