Fire in Hoffman Estates home

A fire broke out in a Hoffman Estates home Thursday afternoon after a man fell asleep while cooking, firefighters said. At about 1:20 p.m., the department was called to a home on the 500 block of Arlington Street after a man called for help before running out of his house, said Batallion Chief Thomas Mackie. Firefighters put out the blaze in about 20 minutes. It caused about $250,000 in fire and smoke damage, Mackie said. No one was injured in the fire, he said.
