Geneva's Biel selects Millikin

Geneva senior offensive lineman Bryce Biel has chosen Millikin to continue playing football.

Biel, a member of the Daily Herald All-Area team, picked Millikin over Carthage, North Central, St. Ambrose and North Dakota State, among others.

"I liked the feel of the campus," Biel said. "It's far enough away I have freedom but it is small enough that I can get help when I need it."

His Geneva teammate Cory Hofstetter is moving from defense to play offense at Western Illinois, and Biel said he will make the opposite transition at Millikin to play on the defensive line.

"That's going to make me work even harder," Biel said. "I'm looking forward to it."

The last time Biel played defense was his sophomore year at Geneva. His coach then was Mike Fields, who last week was named the new varsity coach at St. Charles East.

"I think he'll do a great job," Biel said. "He'll really get to know all his players. He helped me when Dustin (Villarreal) passed, he taught us how to handle adversity. I believe he'll do an unbelievable job over there (at St. Charles East)."

Biel said he's not sure if he will major in business or kinesiology. He's hoping he can convince Geneva teammate Brandon Lee to join him at Millikin.
