States should make gay marriage legal

The issue of gay marriage is quite controversial. Many religious people believe that homosexuality is a sin while others believe that homosexuality ruins the picture of the perfect American family consisting of a mother, father, and children.

States should legalize gay marriage. Homosexuals are not monsters; they are human beings. They deserve respect, first of all. They are not criminals. They have bodies, a heart, a brain, hands, nose, feet, and hair. They have feelings. Homosexuals pay taxes, they live in communities, they have jobs, and they go to school. Most states allow civil unions, gay marriage is banned. Marriage is the commitment of two people who are in love and who want to spend their lives together. Why should marriage be banned from homosexuals? Religions claim that homosexuality is a sin. It's a person decision to agree with that, but how can they be a "loving, accepting person" if they do not accept a person for their sexual orientation? Americans have their mind set on "change," but the only issue that has really been "changed" is the president. President Obama is the first young, black male to become president. Sixty years ago, no one would even think of that. Sixty years ago, there was no "equality." Americans also want "equality". But there is no "equality" if we are discriminating human beings for their sexual orientation. Politics and religious matters should be separate issues. There are so many different people in the United States; following religious views of the Catholic Church would be an insult to other religions. Homosexuality has nothing to do with religion. Homosexuality is a sexual preference, and it is sad that America, a country that claims we are so great, so equal, is not allowing gay marriages.
