A few things about the post office

It seems we have another rate increase for postage. The post office had owned up to the fact that it survives on third class mail; maybe they should pay more attention to the way they handle it.

I got another one of those envelopes that says "we care" with the remnants of some piece of mail. If they cared, I wouldn't be getting stuff like that.

I get a daily newspaper from Southern Illinois, so I should be getting them daily. Far from the truth! I know the papers are sent out daily as my cousin does the distribution. Somewhere between there and here something odd happens. I get them in bunches or not at all. The other day I got two papers, one was dated Feb. 5 and the other was dated Jan. 5. It is hardly news anymore. There is a rule about items that applies to inventory or any other distribution system: First in, first out. This simply means that the stuff at the head of the lines get first attention. The stuff at the end moves up the line until it is at the head of the line. It does no one any good when you deliver the stuff at the end of the line.

The Elgin office has another problem and that concerns snow removal. I don't know who plows the snow but it ends up piled in the two handicapped parking places at each end of the parking in front of the post office. Sometimes the curb cut gets cleared for those who use a wheelchair but most times it doesn't. Recently, there was still snow piled in the parking place at the far end. Piling snow or putting anything in the handicapped parking place is illegal; only a vehicle with a permit is allowed to occupy that space.
