Gettysburg book review
Batavia's Books Between Bites welcomes Rod Henshaw, dean of Drake University's Cowles Library, to the monthly program at noon Thursday at Batavia Public Library, 10 S. Batavia Ave. He will present "The Killer Angels of Gettysburg: Fiction, Fact, and National Memory." The book is the "One Book, one Batavia" selection for 2009. You can bring a lunch or pre-order one from the coffee shop at the library by calling (630) 406-8870.
'Beauty and Beast'
Geneva Community High School will present the musical "Beauty and the Beast" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday at the school, 416 McKinley Ave. All seating is reserved. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for students, children and senior citizens. To purchase tickets in advance, e-mail dhanson@geneva304.org (preferred) or call (630) 463-3838. The box office will open at 6:30 p.m. each evening and a limited number of tickets will be available at the door.
Hear teachers play
The Geneva Music Faculty Recital is at 3 p.m. Sunday at Fox Valley Presbyterian Church, 227 East Side Drive, in Geneva. Admission is $5 per individual, $15 per family. A reception will follow. Performers include Kelly Coughlin, Jason Flaks, Chrissa Flaks, Kevin Henrickson and Chuck Torgett. All proceeds go to the Geneva Music Boosters Scholarship Fund.
Marklund egg hunt
The Mothers Club of Geneva is sponsoring Marklund's Easter Egg Hunt at 10 a.m. April 4 at the Hyde Center, 1S450 Wyatt Drive, Geneva. Children up to age 10 are welcome. Registration is due March 23. A $5 donation is suggested. Marklund is a not-for-profit network of services for infants, children and adults with developmental disabilities. Rush-Copley gets high marks
Rush-Copley Medical Center's recent employee engagement survey revealed that the hospital's employees are among the most satisfied in the nation. Responses placed the Aurora hospital among the top 5 percent of hospitals surveyed nationally. The annual survey measures the level of engagement employees have through their response to questions about work environment, whether they would refer a friend or family member or consider looking for another job. According to the survey, 86 percent are "extremely satisfied" at work and 85 percent would refer others.
