Garden seminar

Wasco Nursery & Garden Center, 41W781 Route 64, will have a "hardscaping" seminar Saturday to raise money for the Fox Valley Wildlife Center. The 10 a.m. event will include a presentation on landscaping walls, walks, patios and backing structures. Admission is a $5 donation to the wildlife center. To reserve a seat, call (630) 584-4424.

Police chief certified

Campton Hills Police Chief Greg Anderson was recently designated a certified police chief through the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police. Officials said Anderson qualified for certification because of his experience, educational background and community efforts. To maintain the status, he must meet ongoing requirements and be recertified every five years. The program began in 1998 and is designed to recognize outstanding police chiefs, village officials said. (630) 463-3838. The box office will open at 6:30 p.m. each evening and a limited number of tickets will be available at the door.

History pub crawl

The Geneva History Center will have the fundraiser "Tapping History" starting at 6 p.m. Satureday. Participants will tour eight restaurants and pubs situated in some of Geneva's older and more interesting buildings, including Citizen Kane, Little Owl, Mill Race Inn, Old Towne Pub, River Lane Pub, Sergio's Cantina, Stockholm's and Villa Verone. Costumed actors will portray some of Geneva's historic figures. There's music, a scavenger hunt, raffle and auction. Cost is $35 for nonmembers and $25 for members, with all proceeds benefiting the center. To reserve a spot, call (630) 232-4951 or visit genevahistorycenter.org.

Italian night for hospice

Fox Valley Volunteer Hospice is hosting "Escape to Villa Verone," an evening of all-you-can-eat food, entertainment, and a chance to win a Sanibel Island, Fla., getaway, at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Villa Verone, 416 Hamilton St., Geneva.
