Cops: Family chases off suspected home invader
Elgin police arrested a 35-year-old man early Monday on allegations he forced his way into a home on the 300 block of Yarwood Street and tried to pull an 18-year-old ex-girlfriend from the residence.
Luis A. Tovar, of the 1300 block of Cimarron Court, Elgin, was charged Monday with two Class X felony counts of home invasion and possession of a controlled substance. He faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted.
Police said that as Tovar tried to remove the woman from her bedroom, her relatives attacked him and drove him outside.
Tovar screamed, "I'm going to come back and finish this," as he entered a gold minivan that sped away from the home, reports state.
Police later found him hiding underneath a blanket in the back seat of the van. A plastic bag containing three grams of cocaine was at his feet, police said.
The van's driver, Luis D. Rosa, 24, of the 900 block of Cookane Avenue, Elgin, was charged with obstruction of justice and was released after posting a $100 bond.
Tovar was unable to post a $10,000 bond and was taken to the Kane County jail Monday morning. His next court date is on April 3.
