Air Force nurse charged in 3 patients' drug deaths

SAN ANTONIO -- An Air Force nurse has been charged in the deaths of three terminally ill patients at a San Antonio military hospital.

The Air Force said Tuesday that Capt. Michael Fontana administered lethal doses of medication to three patients in his care at Wilford Hall Medical Center, the Air Force's largest hospital.

Air Force officials said they conducted an investigation after irregularities were discovered in Fontana's administration of potentially lethal medications.

Fontana will face an Article 32 hearing, the military equivalent to a grand jury proceeding, in the next few weeks.
