Ryan well qualified to be twp. supervisor

Nancy Lannett's Feb. 23 letter regarding the current administration of Maine Township government is at best well off the mark.

While other townships such as Elk Grove froze salary increases and Wheeling Township did not increase salary other than a 2.5 percent increase for the township supervisor, Maine Township officials including current Collector Peter Gialamas, saw fit in this current economy to give a 2.5 percent increase to the supervisor, highway commissioner, clerk, assessor and collector and all four trustees alone with all township-paid health insurance.

Our taxes are guaranteed to rise due to this ridiculous increase when economic times are so difficult for many families that putting food on the table is becoming a concern.

The quality of Maine Township has deteriorated immensely in the last four years and I, being a resident of unincorporated Maine Township for 42 years, know it to be a fact.

Come election day on April 7, 2009 the voters need to take a long hard look before voting.

Currently the only Democrat sitting in Maine Township government is Trustee Peter Ryan, who is now running for township supervisor.

Mr. Ryan has an outstanding reputation as a child advocacy attorney, and he alone with the other well-qualified Democratic candidates will return Maine Township to a "I care about the citizens more than my status" caring attitude, keeping spending and taxes in check while providing all the essential services that townships perform.
