St. Charles East students earn art scholarships

St. Charles East High School students were awarded Aurora University scholarships at an opening reception March 3 for an STC-East art exhibit at AU through March 31.

Meg Bero, Schingoethe Gallery director, announced scholarship winners. They are: Josh Miser, best of show, $1,500 scholarship; Jessica Mueller, first place, $1,000 scholarship; Zach Hill, second place, $750 scholarship; and Tom Hinds, third place, $500 scholarship.

Honorable mention award winners were Kelley Knudson and Katie Hayes.

AU scholarships are renewable annually. AU offers a major in art and a minor in museum studies.

AU's ninth annual high school art exhibit is in the Schingoethe Gallery in Dunham Hall, 1400 Marseillaise Place in Aurora. The public is invited. Admission is free. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays, and 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays.

Student artworks include photography, paintings, drawings, sculpture and other pieces.

STC-East art teachers are Becky Blaine, Greg Chapman, Lisa Mack, Louise Miller, and Nathan Shackleford.
