Huntley woman jailed on harassment charges
A 61-year-old Huntley woman was charged with two felonies Friday for yelling threats of physical violence at a South Elgin couple who authorities say she previously harassed over the phone.
Barbara Hanas, of the 11800 block of Borhart Drive, faces two counts of harassment of a witness stemming from an incident Wednesday in front of the couple's Ridge Avenue home, police said.
"The original case started with a charge of telephone harassment against Hanas last August." said South Elgin Detective Sgt. Mike Doty. "South Elgin police were called to Ridge Avenue late Wednesday for a suspicious vehicle in the neighborhood."
According to a court report, the couple was so frightened of Hanas they sent their seven-year-old child to stay with others.
Hanas was supposed to have no contact with the couple, a man 31 years old and a woman 27 years old, under the terms of her release on the telephone harassment charge.
Doty said Hanas was acquainted with the couple, but would not state the exact nature of their relationship.
A disheveled Hanas appeared bewildered at a bond hearing Friday.
She told Kane County Judge John Noverini, "I'd like to go home today," after he set her bond at 10 percent of $750,000.
Noverini ordered her to undergo a psychiatric evaluation before her next court date, scheduled for March 20 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
