Agents grab 4-kilo coke shipment in Elgin

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents this week recovered four kilograms of cocaine with a street value of $400,000 that had been shipped to an Elgin address.

Orlando Picasso Dominguez, 19, of the 400 block of Fremont Street in Elgin, was charged Friday morning with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and possession of a controlled substance, according to court records.

The most serious charge is a Class X felony, punishable by 15 to 60 years in prison because of the large volume of drugs seized.

The arrest culminated an investigation that began when ICE agents intercepted a package containing the cocaine at O'Hare International Airport.

Authorities did not disclose how the drugs were detected, but Elgin police said suspicious packages sometimes are discovered by drug-sniffing dogs.

After finding the cocaine, ICE agents placed the drugs back inside the package along with a recording device.

It was delivered to Dominguez at an address on the 300 block of Dundee Avenue. He then took to his home on Fremont Street, according to a court records.

ICE agents searched the residence at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday and discovered the nearly nine pounds of cocaine.

Kane County Assistant State's Attorney Kelly Orland sought a $2 million bond for Dominguez Friday.

"Dominguez gave multiple names when he was arrested, he's here illegally and the cocaine has a street value of $400,000," she told Judge John Noverini.

The judge granted the prosecutor's request, and then some, setting a $3 million bond.

Dominguez was transported to the Kane County jail to await his next court date, March 20 at the Kane County Judicial Center.

Elgin police said they did not know if any additional federal charges would be filed against Dominguez.
