Frazier sidelined for Illini; undergoes hand surgery

INDIANAPOLIS - Illinois senior guard Chester Frazier underwent minor surgery on his right hand Thursday and won't be available for this weekend's Big Ten Tournament.

According to school spokesman Kent Brown, Frazier did not want the details of his injury disclosed. Illinois is hopeful Frazier might be able to play in the NCAA Tournament next week.

Frazier injured the hand in Wednesday's practice and after a medical evaluation it was determined that surgery was the best option.

Frazier, the best defender on a team that ranks third nationally in scoring defense, also led the conference in assists this season at 5.29 per game.

Illinois (23-8) plays Michigan (20-12) at 5:30 p.m. today in a Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal. The game will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network and WIND 560-AM.
