Fetus as important as 4-year-old?

I strongly disagree with the Feb. 24 letter by Joseph Helsing. To say that the abortion issue is not about religion is absolutely laughable. The driving force behind the anti-abortion movement is religious organizations, including the Catholic Church and various Evangelical denominations. Mr. Helsing must think the readers of the Daily Herald are ignorant if he wants us to believe that religion has nothing to do with the abortion issue. Mr. Helsing is entitled to his religious beliefs. But he is not entitled to force his religious beliefs on everyone else in this country. If Mr. Helsing so strongly believes in protecting the innocent, there are millions of innocent children in the U.S. who are currently living in poverty. They need food, clothing, education and a loving environment. However, it would appear to me that it is easier and more convenient for Mr. Helsing to protect the innocent fetus than it is to protect the innocent 4-year-old.
