Gurnee Holiday Inn reveals plans to renovate

The Holiday Inn at 6161 Grand Ave. in Gurnee announced that it will soon begin a "comprehensive" remodeling of the three-story hotel.

The hotel, which is about 40 years old, will remain open during the renovation, according to Tarun Kapoor, who is working as a consultant for owner Ramesh Goyal, who took over as owner about a year ago. All 217 rooms and common areas will undergo renovation.

"The structure is solid, but the place is outdated. We will replace everything from the carpet to the wallpaper," Kapoor said. He expects the project to begin any day now when they gain final approval from Holiday Inn.

"It will be a new hotel," said Kapoor, who could not say how much the project would cost.
