Preview: No. 5 Downers South (23-5) vs. No. 1 Hyde Park (25-4)

When: 7:30 p.m. today.

Outlook: Downers South escaped the Hinsdale South regional final with a 46-43 win over favored Mt. Carmel, which led 40-31 early in the fourth quarter. Alex Gorniak scored the game's final points as the Mustangs claimed their first regional title since 2005. Balance again ruled the day - Malcolm Herron scored 13 points and Julius Staisiunas added 10. Now comes a mammoth test. Hyde Park was the Public League's runner-up to North Lawndale and entered the postseason ranked eighth by the Associated Press in Class 4A. The Thunderbirds are led by 6-foot-5 San Jose State-bound forward Anthony Dixon, who scored 21 points in Friday's 66-54 win over Marist in the Brother Rice regional final. Fabyon Harris added 15 points. Malcolm Griffin is another player to watch.
