Lunch and learn about Athens

The Fox Valley Associates of the Art Institute of Chicago will hold its annual meeting Wednesday, March 11, followed by a lecture and lunch at the Royal Fox Country Club, 4405 Royal and Ancient Drive, St. Charles. Dimitri Liakos will discuss the golden age of Athens. Liakos is a master teacher at Northern Illinois University and former chair of the art history department. Waubonsee parents night

Waubonsee Community College is hosting a parent's night From 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 12, in the Event Room of the Academic and Professional Center on the college's Sugar Grove Campus, Route 47 at Waubonsee Drive. Parents of current high school students are invited to attend this free event that will feature speakers, campus tours, refreshments and a raffle for a $100 gift card. Seasonal fare at ECC

Lunch service has resumed at Spartan Terrace, the upscale restaurant operated by students of the Culinary Arts and Hospitality Institute of Elgin at Elgin Community College. The restaurant is now open from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays through April 30 inside the Culinary Arts Center, 1700 Spartan Drive. Entrée prices range from $7 to $10. Summer job fair

The village of South Elgin and other local businesses will host a job fair from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 14, at the Village Municipal Annex, 1 W. Gas bill relief

Funding may be secured to help Fox Valley residents pay for their heating bills. The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program is accepting applications for those who have not yet applied for benefits since September 2008. This program applies to homes heated with natural gas, electricity or fuel that's delivered. Eligibility is based on the household's combined income. Applications are taken by appointment only.
