Library work to begin

The Elk Grove Village Public Library will begin the renovation of the Adult Services Department on Monday, March 16. The redesign project will be done in two phases. The first will take two to three weeks and the nonfiction, paperback and reference collections will not be available. The second phase will start around the first week of April and will also last two to three weeks. During that phase, the computer lab, group study room, magazine room and periodicals storage area will not be accessible. In addition, the fiction, large print, biographies and music collections will not be available. Audiovisual materials will be limited. The work should be completed by May 1.

Program teaches saving lives

The Alexian Brothers Center for Mental Health and Alexian Brothers Interfaith Parish Support Services will offer an educational seminar titled "Changing Attitudes, Saving Lives" from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, at the Indian Trails Public Library in Wheeling. Mental health professionals will teach suicide awareness, prevention and intervention. The program will be held in the large meeting room at the library, 355 S. Schoenbeck Road, Wheeling. Recycle old electronics

Maine Township's town hall will be a drop-off site for an Earth Day electronics recycling drive on April 25. The event is sponsored by Liberty Bank for Savings and hosted by the Park Ridge Chamber of Commerce and the Park Ridge Park District. It will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 100 S. Western Ave., in front of the senior center in Park Ridge, and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot of town hall, 1700 Ballard Road, Park Ridge. Recycling Avenue, the company responsible for the electronics recycling bin in the town hall lobby, is a service of Avenues to Independence, a nonprofit organization employing physically and mentally challenged adults. Items accepted for recycling are: cell phones, DVDs, game consoles, MP3 players, print cartridges, digital cameras, digital video recorders, laptops/notebooks, cordless phone systems and other small electronics. Computer monitors, printers, personal computers and toner cartridges will not be accepted. A donation of $5 per vehicle is encouraged. Proceeds go to the Park Ridge Community Fund, and used to offset the cost of hosting the event and hiring a certified recycling company.
