Truth must be free of even subtle bias
I admire the honesty of Mr. Paddock's motto which appears at the top left side of the Opinion (Editorial) page i.e. "Our aim: To fear God, tell the truth and make money". I can't say the Herald tells anything but the truth, however there are ways of distorting the truth by way of presentation, and I believe a biased staff is expert at that.
A prime example of the art of editorial distortion was on Page 1 of the Feb. 24 edition of the Herald, where the large header print states "GOP Open to gas tax hike?", which gives the impression the tax is a GOP thing. However, reading the small print in the article it says "Some Illinois Republicans are open to a gas tax hike - but they want it to be smaller than the one floated by the Democrats." As an independent voter, I strongly favor the two-party system, which is a mainstay to our form of government. I feel the news media is systematically breaking down that two party system by their biased reporting of the political news. If you believe in the two party system, then please report the news accurately and fairly for both sides of the legislative aisle.
