Slaughter opens with victory

Behind the passing of quarterback Russ Michna, the Chicago Slaughter opened the CIFL season with a dominant 84-24 win Friday night over the Milwaukee Bonecrushers at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates.

Russ Michna, the former Conant High School star who started for the Chicago Rush last season, had his new team rolling quickly with a 56-point first half. For the game, he totaled 240 passing yards and was not sacked.

The Bonecrusers gained yardage but couldn't find the end zone against the Slaughter until late in the game. Milwaukee opted to run the ball and take time off the clock, which kept the Slaughter from breaking the league scoring record.

Wide receiver/linebacker Deuan Alfonzo, another former Rush player, scored four times for the Slaughter, two on offense and two on defense.

The Slaughter has a bye week before traveling to play the Wisconsin Wolfpack next Saturday, and a home game against the Rock River Raptors on March 27.
