Anderson homers in White Sox win over Australia
PHOENIX -- Brian Anderson homered and Josh Fields had three hits, helping the Chicago White Sox beat Australia's World Baseball Classic team 10-3 on Friday.
Gordon Beckham, playing his first game at second base, added two hits and scored twice from the leadoff spot for Chicago. Normally a shortstop, Beckham was selected eighth overall by the White Sox in last year's amateur draft.
Anderson, who has struggled at the plate this spring, hit a long homer to left field leading off the fourth inning. Fields added two RBIs, Alexei Ramirez also knocked in two runs and Brandon Allen was 4-for-4 with two RBIs.
Wes Whisler started for Chicago and struck out four in two scoreless innings. He gave up two hits and walked one.
Australia opens WBC pool play Sunday night against Mexico at Mexico City.
