Your generosity to troops appreciated
Fox Valley Troop Support Inc. would like to thank all of the volunteers who supported our local deployed troops over the Christmas season. The following letter was sent to us by St. Charles resident and St. Charles East High School graduate LCPL Alec Martines. He expresses the appreciation that many of our troops feel when receiving packages from their hometowns:
"I am LCpl Alec Martines. I received 4 packages in the mail when I came into work (we switched shifts, so now I work nights). At first I thought that they were for another Marine, who was doing extra work in Fallujah, so they still send his mail here. Then I noticed that my name was on ALL of them!!! Everyone there was urging me to open them all up; we were so surprised at what was inside. Everyone loved it and got something out of at least one or two (or three) of the boxes. I liked the "graphic novels" (we still call them comic books for big kids!), the soup and noodles, and all the drink mixes! Please tell everyone thank you and we can't wait to get more!!!
Respectfully sent, LCpl Martines"
FVTS is grateful to the community volunteers that showed up at the Batavia VFW in December. Many local elementary school students wrote letters of support in their classrooms, and several families donated all of their Halloween candy for the care packages. Through the generous donations that were dropped off and the outpouring of volunteers, FVTS prepared and sent over 300 care packages to our local deployed service members.
If you know of a local service member who is deployed and would like to hear from us, FVTS has scheduled another community care package event at the Batavia VFW for May. Please contact FVTS Co-Chairs: Sarah Giachino at myconfident@aol.com, (630) 587-3789 or Kathy Tobusch at kasha2226@aol.com, (630) 406-9172. Dates and times of the packing event in May will be announced soon.
Thank you for your support and for always keeping our local service members in your hearts and prayers.
