Eddie's reopening delayed

The reopening of Eddie's restaurant in downtown Arlington Heights has been pushed back to mid-May, according to Kyle Schaeffer, Eddie's new owner.

Schaeffer's business partner dropped out of the deal, which is why it's taking a little longer to get the permits and open up at 10 E. Northwest Hwy., Schaeffer said.

Eddie's has always been a place for regulars. Before closing, much of the green decor had been the same for years. Bonnie Knight and Ed Jensen used to display the restaurant's original liquor license, dated 1949 - it cost $600 and was the sixth liquor license ever issued in Arlington Heights.

During Lent, customers packed Eddie's on Fridays for its famous fish fry, where it served up to 600 pounds of fish each week. Over the years, Eddie's was host to all sorts of famous people, including jockey Eddie Arcaro, Wilt Chamberlain and Marlon Brando.
