Richard Marx to perform benefit concert for Zacharias center
If you're looking for a diversion from the doldrums of late winter, consider this.
Grammy Award-winning singer Richard Marx will be performing a benefit concert for the Zacharias Sexual Abuse Center on March 19. Sponsored by Robinette Demolition and Turner Construction, the "Out of the Blues" charity concert is at the House of Blues in Chicago. Doors open at 7 p.m. There will be food and open bar. You must be 21 or older to attend. The show starts at 9 p.m. and ends at 11 p.m.
In 2004, Marx won a Grammy Award for the song, "Dance With My Father," which he co-wrote with Luther Vandross. More than 30 million of his records have been sold worldwide.
Marx is the first solo artist to have his first seven single records hit the top five on U.S. charts. The adult contemporary singer-songwriter is best known for songs, "Endless Summer Nights," "Right Here Waiting" and "Now and Forever."
Proceeds from the show will benefit the Zacharias Sexual Abuse Center.
The Gurnee-based agency provides 24-hour counseling services and advocacy for victims and families dealing with sexual assault, abuse and rape. One in three girls and one in five boys experience sexual abuse or assault by age 18, according to the center.
The Zacharias Center is the only rape crisis center in Lake County. The 25-year-old group provides free counseling for children and adults, a 24-hour hotline and educational programs in schools and hospitals, among other places.
Tickets are $135 per person, and $100 of each ticket is tax deductible, organizers said. Go to ZCenter.org to purchase tickets. For more information, call the Zacharias Center at (847) 244-1187
