New face in Pingree Grove
Pingree Grove officials recently hired James Kelly as the village's first-ever building director. Kelly, who for six years held a similar position in Wheeling, brings nearly 20 years of experience to the village and will be making $76,000 a year, said Village Manager Scott Hartman. Kelly will be responsible for code enforcement, zoning and inspecting new residential and commercial construction. He begins his new job Monday.
Union honors District 158 teachers
The Huntley Education Association, the teacher's union in Huntley Unit District 158, has announced its teachers of month for February. Tiffany Van Yzendoorn, an art teacher at Chesak Elementary School, is the teacher of the month from the Reed Road campus. Anna Pasco, a history teacher at Huntley High School, is the teacher of the month from the Harmony Road campus. Alicia Lykins, a kindergarten teacher at Mackeben Elementary School, is teacher of the month from the Square Barn Road campus.
Mayor to host cyber meeting
Elgin residents can chat live online with Mayor Ed Schock about the state of the city from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 11. People can go to cityofelgin.org and click on "Chat Live with Mayor Schock" to be directed to the webcast page. Schock will address topics ranging from crime to economic development. Schock also will respond to questions.
