Chicago's top cop found in contempt of court
A federal judge has found Chicago's top police official in contempt of court for refusing to turn over lists of officers who have repeated complaints filed against them by the public.
U.S. District Judge Robert Gettleman issued the ruling against Superintendent Jody Weis on Wednesday.
Two federal judges had ordered Weis to turn over the lists for a civil lawsuit filed by a Chicago woman who alleges an officer beat her two children.
Weis refused, saying releasing the lists would harm some members of the police force and diminish morale.
G. Flint Taylor, the woman's attorney, says Gettleman rejected Weis' argument and plans to sanction the city.
Chicago police would not immediately comment on the ruling but said a statement was forthcoming.
