Vertis Communication to close Chicago plant
BELCAMP, Md. -- Baltimore-based Vertis Communications is closing plants in Harford County, Md., and Chicago, laying off a total of 265 workers.
The advertising and marketing company will move the work done at the plants to other locations.
The Harford County plant in Belcamp printed The Baltimore Examiner, which ceased publication Feb. 15. The closure there affects 105 workers. Vertis says the demise of the Baltimore Examiner "represented a significant loss in business to the Belcamp facility."
The other 160 layoffs are at the Chicago plant.
Vertis inherited the Belcamp plant in an October merger with American Color Graphics. The plant also produced advertising inserts.
