Bartlett man dies in one-crash near Bartlett High School
A 21-year-old man was found dead after a one-car crash Sunday morning near Bartlett High School.
The DuPage County coroner's office identified the victim as Richard T. Newman of Bartlett.
DuPage County sheriff Lt. Tom Szalinski said deputies were notified of the crash at 7:48 a.m. He said the accident occurred at the corner of Schick Road and Carriage Way Drive in Wayne Township, near Bartlett High School.
The coroner's office said Newman was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:12 a.m.
He said Newman's Honda Civic was eastbound on Schick when it left the roadway and crashed into some trees and a fence at the northwest corner of the intersection. The car was on its side when it was discovered.
The speed limit is 30 miles per hour on the road.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
It is still unclear when the accident occurred. An accident reconstructionist was on the scene.
Bartlett police and fire assisted. The road was closed for about two hours after police arrived.
