Pavelec saves Wolves in win

The Chicago Wolves used a 2-goal second period and 39 saves from goaltender Ondrej Pavelec to slip past the Quad City Flames 2-1 on Sunday at the Allstate Arena.

It was the fourth straight victory for the Wolves (33-27-2-1).

Pavelec (15-12-1) allowed just 1 goal on 40 shots, marking the fifth straight outing in which he has allowed 1 or fewer goals. The 21-year-old goalie, named AHL player of the week last Monday, has surrendered just 6 goals in his last six starts.

"Pavelec continues to play great, and I thought our overall effort was good tonight," Wolves coach Don Granato said. "The penalty-killing specifically was key for us, and our defensemen were very good, but Pavelec filled in any holes for us."

Left wing Jordan LaVallee and center Matt Anderson scored for the Wolves, who are idle until Friday when they visit the Peoria Rivermen.
