Group seeks end to abuse in child care

In response to the recent tragedy, the death of 16-month-old Benjamin Kingan, we have developed Illinois' first grass-roots organization known as Stop Abuse in Daycare (SAD). A Lincolnshire day care center worker has been charged with the crime.

Our goal is to protect children in day care facilities. We believe this is a realistic goal. We seek to involve concerned citizens and legislators at both State and Federal levels, to find solutions that will ensure a safe environment for children, and will help protect them from the physical and/or psychological abuse that has been occurring in day care settings throughout the country. SAD is hosting an informational meeting Saturday, Feb. 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library, 500 N. Dunton.

Several members of the group and some guest speakers will present current issues, current legislation, and SAD's proposed ideas for implementing important changes. Anyone interested in knowing more about our efforts is invited to attend. Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions and will be invited to signup to help with our efforts.
