North Aurora may scale back fests

Where and whether to have fireworks shows this summer in North Aurora is up for discussion at March 2's village board committee of the whole meeting.

The meeting is at 7:30 p.m. at village hall, 25 E. State St.

North Aurora usually displays fireworks on the Fourth of July and at North Aurora Days, a festival held in August.

Despite budget issues brought on by the economic downturn, "I think we're going to proceed as normal" as far as having shows at both events, said Village Administrator Sue McLaughlin. The board could discuss how much it wants to spend, whether to drop one of the two evenings at North Aurora Days, and where to have the shows, she said.

The Fourth of July show cost about $20,000 last year, she said. McLaughlin was uncertain of the cost for the North Aurora Days shows, because it is rolled into the overall festival expense.
