Oak Brook fire chief retiring
After more than 36 years with the Oak Brook Fire Department, Chief Jim Bodony will retire next month. Officials on Friday announced Bodony is leaving as part of an early retirement incentive program offered by the village. His last day will be March 16. Bodony started his firefighting career in Oak Brook on June 16, 1972. He was one of the first village firefighters to be trained as an emergency medical technician. He became chief in July 2005.
Aurora fire chief retires
Aurora Fire Chief Tim Oelker will retire on April 3 after 30 years with the department, officials said Friday. Oelker, 57, has served as chief since November 2005. When the Aurora native joined the department, there were 110 full-time firefighters; now there are 207. Oelker said he's confident his replacement will come from within the department.
Food drive kicks off Sunday
The Lombard Police Department, York Township Food Pantry and Lombard Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association are starting their annual food drive Sunday. The "Step-Up For Seniors" campaign, which runs through April 5, is seeking canned and packaged foods as well as cleaning and personal hygiene items. Collection barrels will be at the Lombard village hall and police department at 235 E. Wilson Ave., Schroeder's Ace Hardware at 837 S. Westmore/Meyers Road and Ultra Foods at 491 E. Roosevelt Road.
Fundraiser begins
A Lombard Culver's restaurant and Coldwell Banker are teaming up to host a Tuesday night fundraiser for a local service agency. From 5 to 8 p.m. March 3, the Culver's at 1155 S. Main St. will donate 10 percent of its sales to First Things First Infant Needs Outreach, an agency that provides supplies and support for children 3 and younger living in Lombard and Villa Park.
