Round Lake man jailed on fifth DUI charge in five years

A Round Lake man is behind bars after picking up his fifth arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol in the past five years.

Margarito Gordillo, 49, of the 24000 block of W. Passavant Avenue, was stopped for speeding by Wheeling police at 10:16 p.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of S. Milwaukee Avenue, Deputy Chief Bill Benson said.

During the traffic stop, Benson said, officers learned Gordillo was driving on a revoked license and noticed that he smelled of alcohol.

Officers arrested Gordillo and took him to the Wheeling Police Department where a breath test was administered, Benson said. Gordillo registered a blood-alcohol content of .099, exceeding the .08 legal limit.

During the investigation, officers learned Gordillo has been charged with DUI four times since 2004: Jan. 24, 2004, July 16, 2006, Dec. 31, 2007 and Feb. 14, 2008.

Court records show Gordillo was sentenced to jail following the 2008 Valentine's Day arrest, but he was paroled after serving four months of a two-year sentence.

In the most recent arrest, Gordillo was charged by Wheeling police with aggravated DUI, aggravated driving on a revoked license and speeding, Benson said.

Bail was set at $500,000 in Cook County Circuit Court Wednesday. He is scheduled to appear in court March 25.
