Man is arrested in Elgin vandalism

An Elgin man was arrested after he hit more than 20 garbage containers and mailboxes with his car, police said.

Police tracked the suspect down after a large piece of the car's front end, along with the license plate, fell off at one crime scene.

Adam F. Kotz, 21, of the 1500 block of Walnut Creek Drive, is charged with felony criminal damage to property.

The vandalism was discovered about 3 a.m. Thursday in the Mulberry Grove and Woodbridge neighborhoods. The officer located a witness who provided a description of the suspect's vehicle and direction of travel. That led police to the car's license plate, and then to Kotz, authorities said.

In addition to the mailboxes and garbage containers, a fence and a lawn were damaged, police said.
