Father accused of critically injuring baby

BELLEVILLE -- A Belleville man is jailed on $1 million bond after being accused of critically injuring his 2-month-old son.

St. Clair County prosecutors have charged 23-year-old Antonio Wood with felony aggravated battery of a child.

Police say the baby's mother said she left the boy with Wood on Tuesday evening while she attended classes in St. Louis, but she found the child unresponsive when she returned.

Authorities say the mother took the child to a hospital and learned the baby had several broken bones and head injuries.

The boy has been hospitalized in St. Louis.
