Chicago attorneys: Burris didn't commit perjury

Some Chicago attorneys are defending Sen. Roland Burris's refusal to resign.

They say Burris didn't commit perjury when he testified before lawmakers or ever try to mislead anyone about his dealings with former Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

The attorneys say they've examined transcripts of Burris' testimony before a House committee investigating Blagojevich's impeachment and found nothing illegal.

At a news conference in a downtown law office Friday, attorney Stephen Stern said Burris' submission of affidavits explaining his contacts with Blagojevich and his allies demonstrates his honesty and that he's been anything but evasive.

The attorneys also say Burris' appointment was legal and there's no justification for a special election as many have suggested.
