This is so cliche: Prison guards find gun in hollowed-out book

WESTVILLE, Ind. -- Westville Correctional Facility guards confiscated a gun hidden inside a hollowed-out book from a Purdue University North Central instructor who arrived at the prison to teach a class.

No charges were filed against the instructor, Jeffrey Grupp of West Lafayette. The gun was discovered Tuesday when prison guards X-rayed a milk crate filled with books that Grupp was carrying into the prison.

Grupp told the Journal & Courier of Lafayette that he has a gun permit and carries the gun for protection. He says he keeps the gun in the book to conceal it and forgot about it when he entered the prison.

State police and the Indiana Department of Correction are investigating the incident. Grupp has been banned from entering any Department of Correction facility.
