Lake Co. man could get 3 years for kicking cat

A Zion man could spend three years in prison after pleading guilty to violently kicking his cat last August.

Jack Henderson, 47, of the 3400 block of Sheridan Road, pleaded guilty Monday to one count of aggravated cruelty to an animal, Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Mike Mermel said.

Henderson is scheduled to be sentenced for the Class 4 felony on April 2, and could get 1 to 3 years behind bars.

Henderson was arrested by Zion police after his girlfriend called to report he was violently attacking the cat, Winnie.

Police found Winnie nearly unconscious and bleeding heavily. Police had the cat euthanized a short time later.

Mermel said Henderson kicked Winnie several times in the head after the cat allegedly scratched him.

Henderson originally faced the more severe charge of animal torture, but that was reduced with the plea deal.
